I suppose I would consider it more like ... do you play an instrument? It is more like making music, or writing poetry. There are formulas, and rules, notations. Pulling a bow across a string will make a similar sound in most hands, but there are differences that practice and skill will make. And genius will bring to another level entirely.
I'm hardly any kind of artist, but I've heard orchestras of varying talent, so I think I understand what you mean.
[thoughtful for a moment]
It seems strange to me. It isn't called magic where I'm from, so maybe that's the difference... But it can typically be counted on to have the same effect when you use it.
[she pauses for a moment, debating, but since she can't use it here:]
It's called allomancy. Essentially, ingesting different metals causes different effects. Tin to enhance your senses, pewter to make yourself stronger... That kind of thing.
Gosh. Ingesting? Through eating alone or are there other ways of inserting it into your body? What exactly is the mechanism by which it allows for magical effects - is it a trained user of this magic, or can anyone simply use it? What about the metals that we eat through normal consumption ... ah, iron, for example.
