For what it is worth, I think you are correct. It is an impossible predicament, but you did your upmost with the information you have, and in many ways it seems like a mercy.
Unfortunately ... I'm not sure that the wish can be used as a cure. It was explained to me that perhaps the magic that enables the wishes also powers the monster. Fire to fight fire, so to speak.
At the very least, I know that certain partners can be saved now. If a partner is killed at any time before execution, as long as the remaining half alive is able to find someone else available to reforge the bond with, they will survive.
... I know you can wish to save someone from being killed by the afflicted... I was hoping it could save someone from being executed, but I suppose that makes sense.
