It wasn't his fault or yours, and yet, I'm certain you feel guilty all the same, do you not? Or at least unhappy enough to want to apologize. He's a very sweet boy, so of course he'd feel terrible even though his feelings toward you were clearly no more his own than yours toward him were.
Unpleasant is underselling it. To be on the executioner's block and awaiting the end, and then to lose your eyebrows while the axe begins its inevitable descent? Insulting is what it is.
