It could simply be as we posited before: Death was an example made. A warning. Do as you are told or face consequences.

If he was possessed, I don’t think it’ll matter all that much whether he’s naturally inclined or not.

They weren't exactly too subtle when we spoke to them earlier. All a bit disorganized in their efforts - though admittedly I do feel they are trying.

Trying's not going to do a lot if it gets us killed faster. [ ... ] I suppose this will make things harder for them to help as well. If I were a large nightmare cult and I learned four of my own had been playing traitor, I'd crack down on them.
