[ this week's location is like... gale's dream. wow.
anyway astarion just goes straight to the library. doesn't even stop to see what else is around here. he has a theory and he's going to prove himself right. ]
[ it’s a good thing this place isn’t secretly full of horrors out to kill him, huh? ]
Glad to see all your observational skills went out the window there. [ hm? he will wander over and sit himself down so he can lean and get a good look at the book. ]
What did you find? And how much of it is about magic?
I found it amongst my belongings this morning. I'm not sure what for, exactly, but a boon, no?
[ that's what astarion is for? to watch out for the horrors? he'll let him look as much as he wants - the book itself is all in a cipher that gale appears to be working on breaking, with all of his new journals in hand.
there is a drawing on this particular page that looks exactly like a mark gale has on his chest though. ]
Oh, all of it is about magic. It's the notes of Karsus himself, supposedly. It's-- if that is true, this is exciting. Very exciting.
… Perhaps? I’ve not heard of them giving out boons for nothing though.
[ he’s not being paid enough to be a guard dog yet.
hmm. suspicious, but definitely useful. he leans over to squint at the cipher like staring it into submission is going to get him answers. it doesn’t. which is honestly rude. he does spot and note the mark though. ]
… Karsus. As in the Folly of?
[ the name rings a bell. he remembers karsus coming up a couple of times during discussions about gale’s past and the predicament with the orb. ]
... My suspicion is that it might have something to do with that little adventure last week. Did you speak to any of them about what it involved?
[ as for karsus. brightly: ]
The very one! But also the greatest wizard of his age. Possibly of all time! Though, of course, I've noticed some mistakes in certain calculations he's made in here ...
I’m aware they ran into Raphael and he offered them a deal. Something about a woman called Hope?
[ something you just run into cambions. ]
Who also destroyed his own civilisation, wasn’t it? [ he’s looking at the book like he can make heads or tails of it. ] I don’t suppose he has some spells on how to obliterate a group of cultists with your mind, does he?
Yes, though I have to say I have no idea what any of that nonsense with the woman is either.
[ sometimes you just run into cambions! ]
That is correct, though ... [ flipping through a few of the pages. ] I do think I see where he made his mistakes. As for our cultist problems, not exactly, but there is the beginnings of a rather interesting spell in here. Necromancy, but more akin to Disintergrate than raising the dead. Pulling on the strands of Weave that infuse the body until the target, erm. Falls apart, as it were.
[ imagine if i could type the correct words at the needed time. ]
…
Are you saying Karsus has a spell to quite literally soot corpses? Dust them, even. Not quite what I’d expect an ostentatious ciphered tome to be telling you, but alright I suppose.
I’m pretty sure all I saw was whatever Raphael was trying to ply us with to take his deal. He did pester us again in Baldur’s Gate, but I hadn’t decided whether to take his deal or not.
[ aka becks needs to actually play the house of hope. act 3 my nemesis. ]
To an extent. I’m failing to see how dusting a corpse is going to help us, other than if we want to hide a body.
He had something we needed and he was willing to exchange for something he wanted. The usual spiel. [ he was going to be more specific but-- ah yes. there was the name karsus again.
[ I WILL AAAA. ]
... Would you even be able to access your magic here to use it? Because if so, I highly recommend the cultists.
[ he’s not bringing up the crown here while gale’s drooling into a tome written by karsus himself. he might explode (non lethal, non orb) ] He’s a cambion, my dear. They always want something.
We were after the Orphic Hammer, actually. Which of course meant he’s the one that bloody had it. It would’ve been nice if it was just in some tiresome little thief’s hands, that would be so much easier to deal with.
[ watches him close the book.
… well. yes. that’s a fairly important thing they are all hoping!! will happen!! ]
If Karlach asks you to, do use it on Gortash. Nasty little creature. I don’t know if taking him down herself is going to be as satisfying as killing Cazador was for me. Or… if it was. I think she might remember killing him where I don’t.
w3, monday

Well, well, well. What a surprise.
[ gale! in the library!

he is so engrossed in this - taking furious notes - that he doesn't even hear this, head down and occasionally stopping to mutter to himself. ]

no he doesn’t. but he will straight up tap his hand on the book itself, right in gale’s vision and repeat himself. pay attention to him. ]
Well, well, well. What a surprise.
[ take two. ]

gale looks up, because the hand got in his way of the line he was reading, and he seems very surprised. ]
Oh-- Astarion! Come, take a look at this. It's very interesting, actually. Sit, sit.

He offered you another deal in Baldur's Gate ... ? What was it this time?
[ PLAY THE HOUSE OF HOPE. ]
It doesn't only do it to dead bodies, you know. It kills living people.
