Mathis is likely feeling like he wants to bury himself in the beach sand and never reemerge over how he treated you, so I do hope that the two of you can speak to each other soon and get your apologies out.

It wasn't his fault or yours, and yet, I'm certain you feel guilty all the same, do you not? Or at least unhappy enough to want to apologize. He's a very sweet boy, so of course he'd feel terrible even though his feelings toward you were clearly no more his own than yours toward him were.
