If they were "good" lackeys, they'd have at least given as a hint to where the exit is! [ this is his hill. he will die here. ] And we're already trapped in a poorly furnished cult village just in time for sacrifical solstice, I'm a little more worried about that than a connection that might not even matter once we get out of here.
[ thank you, he worked very hard on it (three seconds and being shifty) ]
...
[ but he likes the idea of fireballing the bridge.... ]
I would argue you can't confirm a connection without saying "ooh, me too" out loud.
[she gives gale a sort of just like. :\ look. you know the fate she's talking about. but she lets it go, rubbing at her neck.]
We can double-check, but there's no promise they wouldn't lie about it. [...] Could be useful for us to pool whatever we've got together, you know? If they're going to pick us off one by one, which is the sense I got from listening, we need every advantage.
And since the tadpoles are out of commission, and Gale can't explode people with his mind, we're a bit up against a wall.
... Okay, am I going first, or. [she is kind of laughing about this because it's like that picture of the office where they're all holding up finger guns at each other]
I should whack you for that one. [she says, like she's not laughing at the pun.]
Good to know. [she doesn't press any further because gale didn't and he's smarter than her and she should probably follow his lead?] I don't know that I'll tell anybody else mine. Whatever power there is, I'm not interested.
I’m not going to run the risk of exposing what I am to someone who turns around and goes [ clasped hands for emphasis ] “really? Me too!” and then BAM— [ hand explosion motions ] they die, I die, nobody’s happy.
… Although. I do wonder about this “more power” thing they mention.
[ …
you know when you see a kid and they know they should do the thing but they don’t want to do the thing and now they just look mad at nothing and everything, maybe stomping their foot and you have to wait to see if they’ll do The Thing they should do?
that’s astarion right now, minus the foot stomping. give him a moment. ]
[ he'll look between karlach and astarion for a moment, but, listen, he knows them both decently well enough at this point. karlach is digging her ditch in the sand (deeper and wider than a line) and astarion is the world's thirstiest horse that cannot have its head shoved into water, so. there's little point in arguing with either of them at this very second.
because astarion is throwing a little fit though, he does sort of feel compelled to fill a bit of the silence. ]
... In Reithwin town, to either of your memories, did I absorb a portion of the Shadow Weave from one of the Thorm family?
[ astarion opens his mouth, begrudging as all hell and done with his little grumpy internal tantrum on sharing his monster type.
and then he closes it because the topic has changed. ]
…
[ hm. ]
No…? You messed around with a weird… shadowy sigil thing on a desk in Moonrise to make a lantern, but ultimately destroyed it, if that’s what you’re talking about. I think Mystra gave you a gold star or something for being a good boy.
[ oh yes he's just nodding along at astarions description, but he does make a face at the end where he says Mystra-]
Firstly, that is not what I was describing, but I will have you know in my memory I did craft that lantern. Ah ... it seemed prudent, and well. A waste of a decent enough sigil.
Secondly that wasn't what I was referring to. When we defeated the Thorms, they were imbued with a distinct form of Shadow Weave, unique and cultivated within them after their time bathed in the dark waters of the Shadow Curse. Something entirely outside of Mystra's realm, and control. I chose to absorb it, and now have a greater pool of magic that I can cast within a day, of vital import in a situation where the difference between life and death can be made with the certainty of an extra application of Fireball.
When you are in very dire circumstances, sometimes these trades have proven ... quite helpful. I think they are worth considering.
[ though i will say both of these things in a row just make it sound like he was Acting Out against mystra lol ]
[ watches gale have his own little tantrum because astarion brought up his ex. ]
Oh.
No, the Thorms just died. [ he makes a little popping motion with his hand. ] One by one. Nasty little creatures, honestly. You know, I did wonder if that Kate girl was also shadow cursed, but she seems far more in control of her facilities for that to be the case.

[ yeah it was a damn good pun. glancing over at astarion, and there is some Contemplation in the look, but again. he won't push. ]
Very well.
I suppose it raises a conundrum similar to that of consuming additional tadpoles. To trade the potentiality of power for a risk in kind.
